Both Chelsey and I didn’t really like the final book in the Divergent Series.
Characters went out of their way to make stupid decisions which felt out of character. The story dragged and never felt truly resolved at the end. So far we had been liking the film adaptations of the story, but we were not looking forward to seeing Allegiant on the big screen. If we didn’t like the book, how would be like the novel?
What we saw surprised us. Allegiant took some serious liberties with the source material and ended up crafting a halfway decent film. This isn’t going to be the best movie you ever see, and it ends up borrowing heavily from scifi and dystopian tropes that we’ve come to know pretty well. That being said it had some solid action scenes, interesting visuals and interestingly enough lacked the middle movie feel.
That’s right, like many of the cinematic adaptations of YA series before it, the final book has been split into two films. How will the next movie follow up? Will the story be dragged back to it’s roots in the text or will it go off book completely.
We’ll find out next year.
