If you’re like me and you have been dying for a new Tamora Pierce book then you have casually been checking her Wikipedia page for years. And you know that she has had several Tortall books listed as planned and the release dates for them kept getting pushed back. It’s next year every year.
Well, it’s my great pleasure to spread the good news, that being: a COVER has dropped for her next book.
Tempests and Slaughter (going straight for the dark imagery) is her new book about Arram (Numair) and his early life in the Carthaki empire. Not only do we get a two part origin story on our favourite over-powered Mage but we also get to explore his relationship with the charismatic villain Ozorne and his failed romance with Varice. I’m loosing it. An origin story for all the drama that went on just below the surface of one of my favourite Tamora Pierce series… I just want to eat it up.
On top of that, the plot of Tempests and Slaughter promises a ton of political drama as the three friends will eventually hatch a coup to put Ozorne on the throne. Political drama is a type of drama that Pierce excels at and one of my favourite genres when done well. And the title of the book practically screams that this is the kind of action that we are going to get. I’m praying for a move away from the writing style of her Circle series and that of Bekka Cooper, which came across as an it cold and distant, and return to her warmer and simple style last seen in the Trickster series.
The ending to Mastiff was a big let down for me but it doesn’t matter that I’ve been burned before. Whatever happens, this book is going to be my only focus the second it gets in my hands. Pierce has done a whole lot more good than bad stories and my love for Numair knows no bounds. So without further ado the cover for Tempests and Slaughter.
