Welcome back to Top Five Wednesday. This week Chelsey and I talk about the books that we will hopefully read before the end of the year 2016.
The end of the year is getting close. The summer is pretty much over and we’re racing our way into fall. The next thing we’ll know there’ll be four feet of snow on the ground and Chelsey and I will want to start hibernating. Freaky isn’t it?
As we near the end of the year both of our reading lists start to look a little bit impossible. We’re both sprinting to the finish line hoping that we’ll manage to get everything we want read before the cycle resets itself again. How many books can you read in a day? Well, we’re going to find out!

5. The View from the Cheap Seats – Neil Gaiman
The View from the Cheap Seats is a collection of essays and other non fictions by Neil Gaiman. When this book was released I excitedly snatched up a copy and then never got around to reading it. I’ve read a few of Neil Gaiman’s non essays before and loved them, I just haven’t gotten around to starting this book. I’m not sure if I’m going to sit down and read it through in a go or just pick and choose sections until I’m done.
From what we have heard it’s an awesome collection. If I don’t get to it by the end of the year I’ll be bumping it up to the top of my list for 2017.
4. Truthwitch – Susan Dennard
Here’s another book that I bought right when it came out and then never read. I consider myself a book dragon. I horde books but instead of reading them, I just pile them up and sleep on them.

To make matters worse, I’ll go out and buy new books and then instead of reading them, I reread another book that I’ve already read multiple times.
Truthwitch is centered around a female driven friendship which I love. It also has an interesting take on a magic system. Toss in some court intrigue and you have everything that both Chelsey and I could want in a book.
3. Golden Son – Pierce Brown
Chelsey read Read Rising and really loved it. Then she made the mistake of reading the preview for Golden Son in the back of her book. To her disappointment, the main character immediately makes a bad decision. Chelsey closed the book because she was not in the mood to deal with that kind of thing right then and there. She never picked it back up.
There’s nothing worse than a character making a stupid decision only so it will cause conflict for a new story. I always find myself thinking “I’ve trusted you, why have you done this?”
Chelsey has given herself a deadline and hopes to finish reading the series in a reasonable amount of time. She’ll get back to you on that one.
2. The Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas
I have not read any of The Throne of Glass books. Chelsey on the other hand read the first one and wasn’t really a fan. Throne of Glass is one of Sarah J. Maas’s earlier books and to Chelsey it read like a fanfiction. She shut the book and never came back to it. Now years later everyone is raving about the series.
Both of us really like Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I’ve been meaning to give the Throne of Glass books a try. Chelsey’s plan is to give them another go this summer on her vacation so she’ll get back to you on that one as well.
1. The Bronze Key – Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
The Bronze Key is the third book in the middle grade series The Magisterium. At the original posting of this video the book is not out yet and that is the only reason we have not read it. We plan on reviewing this book once we get our hands on it, and you’ll be able to watch that here.
