Do you like books? If you’re reading my blog then I think it’s safe to assume you do.
Have you ever heard of Book Outlet?
Book Outlet is this really sweet website that sells books at a really discounted price. During my many hours on booktube, I’ve heard a lot of bloggers and vloggers talking about this website and decided that I needed to check it out. When I saw their prices and found out that they ship to Canada, I was sold.
The system over at Book Outlet is simple. They have new books and what they call scratch/dent books (damaged in some way). The stock is constantly changing as new books start to come in. On top of that the prices are mind blowing. I spent $25.63 and got FOUR BOOKS. Three of them are hardcover! THREE!!!
So without further ado, lets get into the book haul:

RAGS & BONES: NEW TWISTS ON TIMELESS TALES
Edited By: Melissa Marr & Tim Pratt
I read this book the summer when it first came out and absolutely adored it. I’m almost done a review for it which I will link here.
Each short story in this book takes another story and retells it in a new way either changing the setting, telling it from a different character, etc. Some of the stories work better than the others, it’s too be expected. But for the stories that work. They really really work.
My favourite story was “Without Faith, Without Law, Without Joy” by Saladin Ahmed and adaptation of Sir Edmund Spenser’s The Fairie Queene, a text I had spent a large amount of time with during my undergrad.
My copy of Rags and Bones was from the scratch/dent section, but upon arrival I found there wasn’t much damage. The top of the cover was a little bent out of shape, but it wasn’t anything that the dusk jacket couldn’t hide.

SERAPHINA
Written By: Rachel Hartman
The Goodreads Summary:
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty’s anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen’s Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
Chelsey has been raving about this book for weeks now. She posted a review for it here. When I saw it in the new books section I pounced. The copy is perfect, there is nothing to give it away as a bargain book price. I’m really happy with it.

THE GOBLIN EMPEROR
Written By: Katherine Addison
This book was recommended to me by one of my favourite news websites io9. I’ve been trying to track down a copy, but there’s a long waiting list at the library and I couldn’t find it in my local bookstore. I was delighted when I found it on Book Outlet.
Goodreads Summary:
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an “accident,” he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir.
Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.
Surrounded by sycophants eager to curry favor with the naïve new emperor, and overwhelmed by the burdens of his new life, he can trust nobody. Amid the swirl of plots to depose him, offers of arranged marriages, and the specter of the unknown conspirators who lurk in the shadows, he must quickly adjust to life as the Goblin Emperor. All the while, he is alone, and trying to find even a single friend… and hoping for the possibility of romance, yet also vigilant against the unseen enemies that threaten him, lest he lose his throne – or his life.
This book has everything I love in a high fantasy. The summary reminds me of Queen of I’m so excited to finally get around to reading it.

THE NECROMANCER’S HOUSE
Written By: Christopher Buehlman
Goodreads Summary:
Andrew Ranulf Blankenship is a handsome, stylish nonconformist with wry wit, a classic Mustang, and a massive library. He is also a recovering alcoholic and a practicing warlock, able to speak with the dead through film. His house is a maze of sorcerous booby traps and escape tunnels, as yours might be if you were sitting on a treasury of Russian magic stolen from the Soviet Union thirty years ago. Andrew has long known that magic was a brutal game requiring blood sacrifice and a willingness to confront death, but his many years of peace and comfort have left him soft, more concerned with maintaining false youth than with seeing to his own defense. Now a monster straight from the pages of Russian folklore is coming for him, and frost and death are coming with her.
I am a sucker for a certain type of magician. If your character is a necromancer, I’ve probably read your book or am planning on reading it in the near future. Don’t ask me, it’s Johannes Cabal, we all know it’s Johannes Cabal’s fault. I don’t know why, I just really love necromancers. This book has been on my radar for a while now and I’ve been on the library hold list for a few months. I thought I’d save myself a little trouble and grab it now.
My copy was on the scratch and dent list, and upon arrival it only had a slight crease in the cover. Nothing I can’t live with.
Format: Paperback
Full Price: $18.00
I Paid: $2.49
In other words, I saved myself A LOT of money. Not to mention, the books arrived within four days of ordering! I’m totally going to be keeping my eye on this website for other books. It may not have the widest selection, but if you’re looking to pick up books that you’ve missed or are missing than you can’t go wrong here.
So go on, check it out, you might find something you’ve really wanted for a long time. I know I have.
