Welcome back to Top Five Wednesday! This week Chelsey and I talk about the most recent additions to our book buying wishlist.
This list was very easy to come up with. Pretty much everything that Chelsey and I want is coming out in the next four months, meaning the next four months are going to be insane. From additions to our favourite series to new stand alone novels there were a lot of books to choose from. That being said we had to leave a few of our choices out. Perhaps we’ll come back to this topic again at another time.

Top Five Wednesday: Most Recent Additions to Your Wishlist
5. The Thorn of Emberlain – Scott Lynch
This is the fourth book in the Gentlemen Bastard series. Chelsey recently finished the third novel The Republic of Thieves and I was waiting to discuss it with her. Thieves ends in one of the most catastrophic ways. For me, this was the weakest book in the series so far. That being said the last fifty pages makes up for the everything else in the novel. You’re both horrified and excited for what comes next for all your favourite characters. At the time of filming, The Thorn of Emberlain is being released on September 27th 2016. Hopefully the release won’t get pushed back any further.
4. The Fall of the House Cabal – Jonathan L.Howard
If that title doesn’t make you nervous, then I don’t know what will. Is this the final book in the series? Are all the characters we know and love going to die? Are we finally going to get some answers about the dead girl in Cabal’s basement? These are the important questions. Not to mention we’ve been promised the return of a certain criminologist, and we’ve missed her.
The fifth Johannes Cabal book comes out on the same day as The Thorn of Emberlain.
Check out our review of the fourth book Brothers Cabal here.
3. Gemina – Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman
Gemina is the sequel to Illuminae, also known as the best book we picked up at BEA 2015. At the time of filming, Chelsey had just finished reading the ARC copy of the novel and really liked it.
”Let me tell you nothing ever is going to make the same level of Illuminae, cause you weren’t expecting it the first time. But Gemina gets as close as you’re ever going to get.”
In Gemina, you’re following different characters, but you like them just as much or more. Hanna is the daughter of the Station Captain and Nik is a member of the House of Knives (think similar to the Russian Mob). The novel takes place soon after the events of the first one as Beytech continues to try and cover up their attack on the Kady’s home planet. If you haven’t read Illuminae, check it out and get excited for the sequel!
Gemina is coming out on October 18th 2016
2. Monstress – Majorie M. Liu & Sana Takeda
We learned about Monstress at BEA but sadly were unable to grab a copy. Monstress is a graphic novel. We don’t know much about Monstress other than it’s a dark fantasy story about a woman who can control monsters. All and all it’s right up our alley. Not to mention LOOK AT THIS ART!
Monstress was released on July 19th! Go out and grab your copy now! Check out our review here!
1. Vassa in the Night – Sarah Porter
Again, we heard about this book at BEA but we were unable to get our hands on a copy, despite all our efforts. We tried so hard. Vassa is an urban fantasy taking place in a magical New York which is influenced by Russian folkore. Coming off my high of reading Catherynne Valente’s Deathless, all I’ve been wanting is more books with Russian folklore vibes, so this one is right up my alley.
Vassa in the Night comes out September 30th 2016.
Those are only five of the books that we’ve added to our wishlist. There are many more including the second volume of Thor, The Bronze Key and The Fate of the Tearling.
What books have you recently added to your wishlist? Tell us about them in the comments below. And until next week and next Wednesday…..
