Top Ten Tuesday: Recently Aquired

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday!

For those who don’t know, the Top Ten Tuesday Tag is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is:

LAST TEN BOOKS THAT CAME INTO MY POSSESSION (BOUGHT, LIBRARY, REVIEW COPIES)

10. THE INVASION OF THE TEARLING – ERIKA JOHASSEN (BOUGHT)

Finalllyyyyyyy! I waited a year for this book. And then waited a few more days for my preorder to come in. And then I read it in three days. The Invasion of the Tearling is the sequel to The Queen of the Tearling. A series that may have it’s faults but is amazingly addictive.

9. THE FIFTH HEART – DAN SIMMONS (LIBRARY LOAN)

As I write this post I’m about 1/4th into this novel and am really loving it. I first found it at the Toronto convention Ad Astra, and then put it on hold at the library. That was months ago. The book has finally come in and I’m trying to finish it before my time with it is up (the hold list is still really long). In The Fifth Heart, Sherlock Holmes comes to America to solve one of his biggest mysteries yet… but he’s also realized that he might just be a fictional character. Insanity ensues. I’ll probably post a review for it when I’m done.

8. LOST GIRLS – ANDREW PYPER (LIBRARY LOAN)

I really liked The Damned (Check out my review here) and The Demonologist. I figured it was about time that I started working my way through Pyper’s other novels. This book finally came in from the library. I’m really excited to read it. It terrified my cousin.

7. THE GRACE OF KINGS – KEN LIU (LIBRARY LOAN)

I heard about this novel on one of my favourite websites io9. I love high fantasy, so I’m glad I’ll finally be able to check this book out. Wow, that’s an awful library pun.

6. TO HOLD THE BRIDGE – GARTH NIX

This is the year for Garth Nix it seems. First there was the long awaited Clariel, then there is his new book coming out in October: Newt’s Emerald (which I was lucky to get at BEA) and then to my complete surprise earlier in June he released a new collection of short stories with a new Old Kingdom story. That’s two in under 12 months. WHAAAAAAAAT!

5. THOR VOLUME 1 – GODDESS OF THUNDER – JASON AARON (TEXT), RUSSELL DAUTERMAN (ILLUSTRATOR) (BOUGHT)

I’ve mentioned this one in a few of my top ten lists. A female Thor, sign me up! I ordered this when I ordered Invasion of the Tearling.

4. A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES – SARAH J. MAAS (BOUGHT)

I’m a sucker for fairy tale retellings. ACOTAR is Sarah J. Maas’s version of Beauty and the Beast. I’m really liking it so far. It has some serious Labyrinth vibes. If you know me, I love my David Bowie movies. On a side note, the hardcover version of this book is beautiful.

THANK YOU DAVE…

My friend Dave and I spend a lot of time trading comics and graphic novels back and forth. The last time I saw him he loaded me down with these three.

3. FOREVER EVIL – GEOFF JOHNS, DAVID FINCH, RICHARD FRIEND

The Justice League is dead, and it’s villains versus villains. This comic sounds like a lot of fun. I’m a sucker for else-world like stories (ie. Read Son or Injustice), so I’m really looking forward to this.

2. BATMAN ZERO YEAR SECRET CITY

BATMAN! Is there really anything else to be said. I really liked The Court of Owls and The City of Owls. I just really love Batman….

1. JUSTICE LEAGUE – TRINITY WAR – GEOFF JOHNS, JEFF LEMIRE, RAY FAWKES, ET AL.

I’ve never ready any New 52 Justice League comics, so this will be a first. It also means I have nothing to compare it too.

So there you have it. My top ten favourite books I read in 2017. At the time of writing this there is still half of the month of December to go. I might read something else and this entire list will become invalid. Who knows?

Till then and till next Tuesday, Happy Reading!

Alexandra is always looking for the next book she can devour. She has a love hate relationship with teen fiction specifically when it comes to fantasy, post apocalyptic and failed shakespeare adaptations.

Have your say!
